Dear  EAC Network Supporter,

The 8th Annual Cohalan Cares for Kids event raised a record-breaking $41,000 in support of EAC Network’s Suffolk County Children’s Center at Cohalan Court! The fundraiser is one of the main means of financial support for the Children’s Center, which provides a safe place where children engage in fun and educational activities while their parents or guardians attend to court business.

As it has been since inception, the event was hosted at the Suffolk County Bar Association in Hauppauge where lawyers, judges, and other community members gathered for delicious food and beverages, networking, chance prizes and auction items, a wine pull, and more. Cheryl Zimmer, Esq., a retired, thirty-year veteran of Suffolk County Family and Supreme Courts, and long-time supporter and Advisory Board Member of the Children’s Center, was honored for her dedication to providing a safe haven for children within the courthouse.

Meals on Wheels Driver Saves a Life

It was just a regular day recently for Ken White, one of our Meals on Wheels drivers. He stopped for a cup of coffee, picked up nutritious meals for delivery to homebound seniors, and, oh yeah, saved a life! When Ken arrived at one of his regular's homes, an 85 year-old veteran who lived alone, he was at the right place at the right time. Mr. K opened the door and told Ken he was not feeling well. Ken helped him to a chair, noted that he was in medical distress, and immediately called for help. When the EMTs arrived they provided emergency treatment and rushed Mr. K to the hospital. Mr. K. had suffered a heart attack, which without prompt medical care could have been fatal. Mr. K. is now recuperating at a rehabilitation center and spoke to Ken to thank him for being a lifesaver. It’s all in a day’s work for EAC Network's Meals on Wheels drivers and volunteers who keep seniors safe!

Another CIRT Client Expresses Gratitude

"The CIRT program has definitely benefitted my life overall.  First and foremost, CIRT held me accountable for my behavior and sobriety.  I was able to get a clear head and go through life without the use of behavioral altering substances.  At CIRT, they gave me the opportunity to address my mental health needs and keep me out of the criminal justice system by advocating that I be placed in an outpatient program.  The outpatient program that I was placed into really helped me since I had an outlet and someone to vent to.  It also gave me a chance to address all sorts of personal issues that I would never normally discuss with anyone.  Because of CIRT, I am able to further my career because my criminal charges were reduced.  The staff was very supportive and easy to talk to.  If you have the chance to enroll in the CIRT program, I highly recommend that you take advantage of it."

Women of West Islip Plant Pinwheel Garden

This month launched the Pinwheels of Prevention campaign, during which Patty, Lello, Joan, and Mary on behalf of the Women of West Islip created two incredible pinwheel gardens with 240 pinwheels in honor of #NationalChildAbusePreventionMonth. Assemblyman Mike LiPetri, Suffolk County Legislator Steve Flotteron - 11th LD, Commissioner of Public Works for the Town of Islip Tom Owens, and Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter were also in attendance to show their support.

Clear Vision Also Creates Pinwheels

Staff at Clear Vision Optical also participated in the Suffolk County Child Advocacy Center's (CAC) month-long Pinwheels for Prevention campaign by decorating pinwheels to bring awareness to Child Abuse Prevention Month. The Hauppauge-based business is a long-time supporter of EAC Network and the Child Advocacy Center, constantly supporting efforts, volunteering, and donating.

CAC Family Advocate Presents to Parents

Bruno Yactayo, our Bilingual Family Advocate at the Suffolk County Child Advocacy Center (CAC), recently presented at the Comsewogue Community Connections Night to families of the hispanic community at Comsewogue High School. Not only does the CAC treat child victims of abuse, but it also aims to educate community members on signs of abuse so that it can be identified and addressed sooner rather than later.

At-Risk Teens Enjoy Makeup Workshop

Young ladies in our Alternatives for Youth (AFY) and Chance to Advance programs recently enjoyed a makeup workshop courtesy of donations of makeup packages by Bare Minerals, lip gloss by J Paige Beauty, and nails by Kiss Nails! AFY and Chance to Advance both provide enrichment opportunities to at-risk PINS youth or those in foster care who may otherwise not have similar opportunities or experiences.
