Troop 551 -2-1

Hi  EAC Network Supporter,

This month, we saw so many community members of all ages contributing to EAC Network in some way, whether through donations, volunteerism, or general involvement. One such example was Girl Scout Troop 551, who stopped by our Child Advocacy Center (CAC) and donated 25 ‘sweet cases’ - duffel bags they decorated and filled with a blanket, activity book, stuffed animal, tooth brush, and crayons to help our child victims of abuse feel comforted. We are so thankful to Troop 551!

In this month's Roundup, check out all of the incredible interaction our community has had with EAC Network, helping us to empower, assist, and care for our neighbors in need.

Katz, Smith & Chwat, P.C. Conducts Drive

Katz, Smith & Chwat, P.C. held a winter apparel drive for EAC Network and collected not only a generous amount of hats, gloves, and scarves for children in need who attend our Suffolk County Children's Center at Cohalan Court, but also over $500 in donations! They dropped off their huge box of goodies at the Children's Center and wholeheartedly expressed that "this organization truly has their hearts in it for the kids, and it shows." Thank you, Katz, Smith & Chwat, P.C.!

MAC Volunteers Stock Food Pantry

Once again, MAC Cosmetics volunteers made a difference for our Nutrition Education & Food Services (NEFS) pantry. Their energy was contagious as they unpacked tons of food from a recent food drive, re-stocked pantry shelves, and packed enough grocery bags for a month. For 15 years, this small, enthusiastic army has worked their magic by donating thousands of hours and making a difference for People Living with HIV/AIDS. Incredible job guys, you are the best!

Suffolk Family Court Judge Caren Loguercio administered a formal Oath of Service to four new CASAs (Court Appointed Special Advocates). From right to left: Judge Loguercio, Daniel Costa, Lisa McNeill, Elizabeth Matos (Nassau FCAP Case Coordinator), Howard Lerner (Suffolk CASA Case Coordinator), and Jacqueline Moynihan. Congrats, and thank you for advocating on behalf of children!

Respite Volunteers Reach Milestones

2019 marks the 33rd year that In-Home Respite Services is supporting family caregivers in Nassau County! The program's longevity and success are all due to the commitment, dedication, and care of our volunteer respite companions. Recently, In-Home Respite Services hosted a luncheon and presented awards to volunteers who hit service milestones. Congrats to Evelyn T. (5 years), Lisa C. (20 years), and Lorraine K. (25 years), and thank you to our 40+ volunteers for all that you do. We couldn't help seniors in need without you!

Virtual Reality Glasses Enrich Youth

EAC Network friend and Board Member Laura Palker of Trade Show Solutions Center recently donated virtual reality glasses for the youth in our Alternatives for Youth (AFY) and Chance to Advance programs. An "Epic Game Night" and teen enrichment event was hosted at our 60 Plant, Hauppauge location, and the glasses will continue to be distributed to our youth. Thank you, Laura!

Safe Harbour Raises Awareness of Trafficking

Sabrina Scheld, Supervisor for our Safe Harbour program, which protects and cares for over 200 children who have been, or who are at risk of being, sexually exploited in Suffolk County, represented EAC Network as a domestic violence agency at a press conference hosted by Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone last month commemorating National Human Trafficking Awareness Day.

EAC Network is a diverse not-for-profit human service agency that empowers, assists, and cares for over 82,000 children, families, individuals, and seniors who are in crisis across Long Island and New York City. Among those we assist are children who have been abused or who are in foster care, people struggling with addiction or mental illness, vulnerable seniors, individuals seeking gainful employment, and more.
