3 Pinwheel Ribbon Cutting 4-27-19 4

Dear  EAC Network Supporter,

EAC Network’s Suffolk County Child Advocacy Center (CAC) reduces the trauma of child sexual/physical abuse or neglect and promotes the coordinated prosecution of offenders. The CAC, in conjunction with the Women of West Islip, Girl Scout Troops 551 and 897, the Economic Opportunity Council, and other community members who care, planted a pinwheel garden to represent that individuals can have a positive effect on a child’s life and that every child deserves a happy childhood.

To present the pinwheel garden, representatives and honored guests, including County Executive Steve Bellone, Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter, Islip Town Clerk Olga Murray, Suffolk County Department of Social Services Commissioner Frances Pierre, Jeanette Marino, representing Islip Town Councilwoman Mary Kate Mullen’s office, and Olga El Sehamy, Deputy Director of the Youth Bureau for Suffolk County, cut a blue ribbon, which is also a symbol of child abuse prevention.

Seniors Honored for Older Americans Month

The Village of Hempstead recently honored two of EAC Network's seniors for "Older Americans Month." This year's theme encouraged older adults and their communities to:
- Connect with friends, family, and services that support participation
- Create by engaging in activities that promote learning, health, and personal enrichment
- Contribute time, talent, and life experience to benefit others
Congratulations to our very own Betty Posey and Denise Suffy (pictured with Village of Hempstead Mayor Don Ryan), for this recognition of your dedication to the community!

Birthday Tribute Brings Ray of Sunshine

Bruce Butler is part of the kitchen team at our Long Beach Senior Center, and every day he gives weather announcements to our members. In honor of his birthday earlier this week, Center Manager Bonni Goetz honored him: "For Bruce Butler, our favorite weatherman: In honor of your birthday, it is my turn to do the weather report! Ever since you arrived at the senior center, you have been a ‘ray’ of ‘sunshine.’ You are at your post every morning and afternoon to greet people and to hold the door for them, which is especially helpful on those very ‘windy’ days." Mental Health Diversion Program Aids Hundreds

Individuals with mental illness are over-represented in the criminal justice system and have other risk factors that make them more susceptible to being re-arrested. Through our Mental Health Diversion program, we are able to deter eligible offenders with serious mental health issues and possibly co-occurring substance abuse disorders out of the criminal justice system and provide them with case management and treatment in order to aid in their recovery. Learn more about Mental Health Diversion here.
